Global Finance Meetings Open Under Energy and Debt Pressure

As the IMF–World Bank annual meetings opened in Bangkok, IMF and World Bank leaders described a combined energy-price, borrowing-cost and public-debt squeeze. Reuters reported the IMF’s warning that global public debt is at its highest level since World War II and is projected to exceed 100% of GDP before 2030; developing countries face roughly $400 billion in external debt payments in 2026. The World Bank said it was discussing possible crisis aid with 30 to 40 countries. These are institutional assessments and prospective financing discussions, not disbursements or new audited U.S. fiscal results. The next evidence is the IMF’s October 13 World Economic Outlook, its October 14 Fiscal Monitor and country-level financing terms.
